FAQ

You need an Atmosphere account, and a Bluesky account is one (the most common one). Any AT Protocol provider works. If you don’t have an account, the sign-in page can create one with a provider of your choice. You can also read as a guest with no account at all; see Getting started.

No. Read state, saves, highlights, and notes are private to you. Two things are or can be public: your linkblog (always public, that’s its point) and anything you explicitly opt into syncing or backing externally. Your data has the complete list.

Why does Skyreader ask for permission when I turn something on?

Section titled “Why does Skyreader ask for permission when I turn something on?”

Sign-in only asks for what Skyreader needs to keep your reading in order. Features that write to other Atmospheric apps, like backing your saves with Semble or Margin, publishing a linkblog, or posting feedback, ask for their own permission the first time you use them. Choose Allow access, confirm on your account provider’s page, and you land back where you were, still signed in. Skyreader remembers what you’ve allowed, so signing in again later asks for the same set.

A feed hasn’t shown anything new in a while. Is it broken?

Section titled “A feed hasn’t shown anything new in a while. Is it broken?”

Usually the feed just hasn’t published. Skyreader crawls feeds continuously and surfaces new items within minutes of them appearing. If a site moved or removed its feed, the feed’s row in Manage sources is the place to check and update it.

If you notice a live feed that isn’t working in Skyreader, please open a feedback.

An article came in truncated. Can I get the full text?

Section titled “An article came in truncated. Can I get the full text?”

Often, yes. The Chrome extension reads the page in your own browser, where you may have access the server doesn’t. Open the article on its site, then use the extension’s Save this page; if you’d saved it before, re-saving upgrades the stored copy with the full text.

Reading your feeds and saved articles, marking read, highlighting, notes, and the daily magazine. Changes queue up and sync when you’re back online. Adding sources, sharing to your linkblog, and changing sync settings need a connection.

Settings → Library & privacy → Export OPML downloads your whole list in a format every feed reader understands.

Settings → Linkblog → Delete linkblog removes every link post from your PDS. You can restore the linkblog later to share again, but deleted posts don’t come back.

How do I report a problem or send feedback?

Section titled “How do I report a problem or send feedback?”

You can leave public feedback (questions, feature ideas, bugs) on Skyreader’s userinput board.

For other questions you can email: [email protected].
